If you’re planning to buy a food truck or a sales trailer, one question often comes up: Is my standard category B driving license sufficient for driving on the roads? Here you’ll find the most important information at a glance.
Rules in Germany:
In Germany, the standard driving licence category B allows you to tow:
- A trailer with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 750 kg.
- A trailer over 750 kg, as long as the total mass of the car + trailer does not exceed 3,500 kg.
If you want to tow a heavier trailer combination:
- B96 extension: allows a combination up to 4,250 kg.
- Category BE: permits trailers up to 3,500 kg, with a maximum combined weight of about 7,000 kg (car + trailer).

In the Netherlands you can generally tow with:
